TWO UNIDENTIFIED armed robbers who allegedly attempted to rape a female susu collector, after they had snatched her cellular phone and a bag containing ¢700,000, were lynched on Tuesday, November 21, 2006.
The robbers were said to have trailed the victim from the Tafo area to a bush around the Breman-Nkontwima parcel of land, near the Osei Kyeretwie Senior Secondary School.
Reports said the two deceased robbers were stoned to death, when in the company of two others, currently on the run, they attempted to drag the victim into the bush and rape her that sunny Tuesday, at about 11am.
Checks on their bodies, when Daily Guide visited the area, indicated that their assailants had obviously used pieces of cement blocks and clubs, which were still lying around them, to administer instant justice on them.
An eye-witness, who later spoke to Daily Guide, was surprised that although the suspected deceased robbers had died at about 3 pm on Tuesday, with parts of their bodies intact, one of them had his foot chopped off the next day.
According to the eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the victim was saved from being raped, and possible death, when she screamed and called for help, thereby attracting the attention of people in the area, who rushed to her rescue.
He said although some policemen visited the scene on Tuesday when the information reached them, the bodies were left to decompose in the distressing weather.
No arrest had been made at the time of filing this story.
Terrified residents in the area have meanwhile, appealed to the police to intensify patrols in the area, to ward off other attackers.
The instant killing of the two robbers has brought to three, the number of murder cases reported in the area, over the last few weeks.
