...NAGRAT President Denies Knowledge Of Ashanti Regional Branch Calling Off Strike

Graduate teachers in the Ashanti Rregion have in principle, called off their nine week old strike. The Vice President of the region's branch of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr Joseph Besugu, in an interview with CITI NEWS said that their decision is aimed at swerving a possible case of contempt of court.

The Court ruled two weeks ago that the strike was illegal and so ordered the teachers to go back to the classroom.

The National leadership of NAGRAT however applied for an appeal against the ruling. But it appears the obduracy of NAGRAT is beginning to get shaken in light of the dissenting decision taken by Executives of the Ashanti Regional branch and also considering reports from the Brong Ahafo region that graduate teachers over there have also decided to call off their strike.

The Vice President of the Ashanti Regional branch of NAGRAT, Mr Besugu however says the regional executives are yet to see if the teachers in the region will heed to their call after they have met on Wednesday.

Mr Besugu also noted that though the decision of the Ashanti regional executives appears to be a scenario of putting the cart before the horse, he would not begrudge any member, who choose not to come on board.

In a related development,The National President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr Kwami Alorvi, has told CITI NEWS that he is unaware that the Ashanti Regional branch has decided to call of their strike.

Speaking on the CITI BREAKFAST SHOW on Wednesday, Mr Alorvi said that there have been similar reports from the Brong Ahafo Region, which later turned out to be untrue.

Commentators say the dissenting regional reports are indicative of emerging disunity on the front of NAGRAT, as far as their resolve is concerned. But Mr Kwami Alorvi said the reports from the Brong Ahafo region are lies.

As far as the latest report concerning the Ashanti regional branch of NAGRAT is concerned, Mr Alorvi says he has not yet had that impression from the regional executives and will know the final decision after a meeting later in the day.
