A 35-year-old farmer has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for severing the left hand and inflicting multiple wounds on the head of his brother-in-law.

Daniel Boadu was caught by his brother-in-law, George Hallo harvesting cassava on his farm.

Daniel Boadu was charged on two counts of stealing and causing harm, when he appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Kofi Akowuah.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

The facts of the case as presented by Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan were that the victim, George Hallo, also a farmer, was married to Boadu's sister.

He said both Hallo and Boadu live at Asuotwene near Asamankese where they had their farms.

According to the Prosecutor, on August 23, this year, at about 1.30 p.m., Hallo went to his farm and met Boadu uprooting cassava. Hallo said he challenged Boadu as to why he had come to his farm to steal the cassava.

Chief Inspector Idan said Boadu pleaded with Hallo to forgive him.

The prosecutor said, Hallo realizing that Boadu had shown remorse asked him to carry the cassava home for them to resolve the issue peacefully.

Hallo after that left Boadu on the farm and went home.

According to the prosecutor, later that day at about 4.30 p.m. Hallo approached Boadu and enquired if he had brought the cassava to the house but Boadu did not take kindly to it claiming Hallo had disgraced him by reporting him to his elder brother.

Hallo and Boadu exchanged words and were separated by people around.

Chief Inspector Idan said after they had been separated, Boadu went into his room and returned with a cutlass and attacked him and fled.

A search party organized by the Unit Committee members managed to arrest him at Mepom, a nearby village and handed him over to the police.

Hallo was rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital for treatment where he was referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
