The Minister Designate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu has made a humble plea and called on government to review the budget allocated to the Ministry in order to effectively fulfill its mandate by protecting and promoting the well-being of the vulnerable.
"The ministry does a lot of work, we want the government to review the ministry's budget allocation but he can not do it all alone, we also want the private to support as well. We want to build shelters across the 16 regions," she said.
She made this observation whilst addressing stakeholders on the second day of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) 2022 summit.
With the support from World Bank, UNICEF Ghana and USAID-US Agency for International Development, MoGCSP has held its 2022 Annual Summit under the theme: "Strengthening Resource Mobilization for Effective Social Service Delivery."
The two-day event which started on 15th November and ended on 16th November 2022 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) aimed to canvass ideas and inputs from stakeholders on how to mobilize revenue to augment government resources to help improve existing social protection interventions in order to reach out to more vulnerable groups in the country.
It was also to update participants and partners on the performance of MoGCSP and the status of the Social Sector Funding in 2022.
According to her, the Summit is an annual meeting instituted in 2019 to access the performance and challenges of the Ministry and to also enable the Ministry to collaborate with stakeholders to improve service delivery.
She also stated that the ministry is considering renovating the Efua Southland Children's park in Accra to help children have a playground, therefore, urged the private sector, banks, and international bodies to come to their aid.
