EIGHTEEN final-year pupils of the Adankwame Basic School in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district of Ashanti, have been suspended for various acts of misconduct including stealing, drinking and gambling on the school premises.
They include six girls who reportedly stole a large quantity of bread from a nearby grocery in the company of 12 boys who also engaged in gambling.
John Yidanbla Tayari, the headteacher, announced this at a meeting on Friday arranged by the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Education Directorate to discuss the rising indiscipline in the school.
The meeting was attended by the local School Management Committee (SMC), Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), unit committee members, chiefs, teachers and other opinion leaders. However, the parents of the pupils failed to attend even though they were invited.
