Ghana's total motorable road network stands at 71,063 km. One of the key schemes of President Mahama's transformational agenda was to expand and modernise the road network. This is a prerequisite to open up the country in order to reduce road traffic accidents, boost economic activities and move foods and services freely.

To this end, unparalleled investments were made under his reign in road projects across the country. The five year, Ghc3 billion, Cocoa Roads Improvement Programme (CRIP) was commenced with the construction of many roads in cocoa - growing areas.

Explaining the reason for instituting the cocoa roads project, President John Dramani Mahama said that his Government observed that the cocoa growing communities had some of the poorest roads in the country and together with Cocobod, agreed to vote $150 million of cocoa proceeds annually into constructing roads for those cocoa growing areas.

Beyond the massive road construction in cocoa growing areas, other road projects funded from various sources were constructed. I will be giving details of these unprecedented achievements in my subsequent articles.
