Letter Ablekuma North Constituency Loyalists eulogize Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto on his birthday
OCT 20, 2022 LISTEN

On this special occasion, a legend worth celebrating. Recognising a hero while alive is more appropriate and most importantly if his deeds continue to impact the larger masses. A generational thinker and a living legend of our time with numerous foresight policies and a sense of smooth implementation is worth celebrating.

*Eulogising Ghana’s iconic Agric Minister DR. OWUSU AFRIYIE AKOTO* today is in the right direction if we take out our political shades. Ghana can confidently say, the agric sector has gained its rhythm with fortified fundamentals perfectly laid inspite of global challenges and also to improve upon where we are as a nation.

Numerous pro-poor policies and programs are in motion, such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Rearing for Food and Exports, Soya Bean Committee - to address poultry and livestock feed challenges and improve its quality, Tree Crop Development Authority, Building Warehouse Storage Facilities in every District and some selected towns, Greenhouse Farming, Fertilizer Factory to be built soon, Cocoa hitting 1.3M metric tonnes - expect to hit 1.5M by the end of the year 2024, Modernized and sophisticated farm machinery imported to boost large scale farming, Enhancing Extension Services, Boosting Irrigation etal.

What will shock the world and many Ghanaians will be the soon-to-be-rolled-out almighty State Farms aimed at promoting modern agricultural production and creating wage labour employment in the rural areas coupled with boosting food security and our economy.

This will decrease agricultural imports and increase exports besides COCOA and also intensify other TREE CROPS, to demonstrate the superiority of modern technological agriculture.

The agricultural sector today has been the backbone of Ghana’s economy in the current political dispensation and in governance every sector of the economy must be attended even though it remains the pillar inspite of the global pandemic COVID-19 that has caused economic meltdown. Critics who may decide to look at a little percentage of challenges under the Agric Sector as releasing funds to address them must also appreciate that governance is about addressing all sectors of the economy.

Ghana is now realising the agrarian revolution and the indecies are evident in full glare with the strong fundamentals of putting the country into the global pedestal that can be seen and attested by all.

These are all monumental strides under the watch of DR. OWUSU AFRIYIE AKOTO to realising our potential as a country with the bearing of affecting every sector of the economy. The pillar and sustainability of factories in Ghana have it backbone of survival on agriculture output which is crucial to applaud the current measures being implemented.

Today Ghana is the leading production of vegetables in Africa, in food security - second in the continent, and many others that are evident to the fact that Ghana is making a giant headway. The umbilical chord of Ghana’s Agriculture is by laying a strong fundamentals to appreciating the GHANA BEYOND AIDE of the following which are already in motion

1. Promoting science and technology in the Agric Sector

2. Liberating ourselves from over-dependence of imported cereals and embracing large scale domestication farming

3. Making a strong influence in the regional and international markets

4. Promoting good roads and transport system

5. Building of storage warehouse facilities

6. Irrigation system

7. Sustainable energy.

A cursory scrutiny of Ghana’s history in the area of agriculture from independence till date, the prospects and challenges of every generation although varies from one generation to another shows with no dispute, Agric sector today is in full progressive gears. The vision and effort of strongly touching every aspect in Agric today are very monumental and a giant stride. Ironically today, we have soon forgotten seasonal antecedents in years ago when there was absolute no tomatoes, yam, plantain and other food crops to buy from the market. Today, the deeds of a mark of a generational thinker with good proactive measures putting in place taken into consideration food as an umbilical cord to human development we now see a cyclical food chain.

On this note, it deems fit to eulogise a generational thinker and an iconic figure like DR. OWUSU AFRIYIE AKOTO for his tireless effort of making Ghana self-sufficient in agriculture production and together we can realise the agrarian revolution as a nation. Congratulations and God bless us all.
