Group accusing minority leader of sabotage not recognised by NDC — Youth Organiser
The Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Karim Abdul- Mumin has said his office has not recognised some youth group recently accusing the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu of fueling tension in the party.
In a press release on Monday, August 29, signed by Karim Mumin, he described the youth as "faceless" and "unknown" to the NDC Youth Wing in the region.
According to him, the minority leader, who doubles as Tamale South legislator has been supportive of the party's activities in the region.
"The attention of the northern regional youth secretariat of the National Democratic Congress has been drawn to a press statement by an unknown youth group in Tamale on Sagani TV, accusing the minority leader of fueling the troubles in the region. As an office responsible for the oversight of all youth activities in the region, I want to state categorically that the allegations levelled against the minority leader Haruna Iddrisu is unfortunate, uninformed, ignorant and condemnable", the NDC Youth Organiser said.
He added, "The minority leader on the contrary has been very instrumental in working closely with the party to resolve all the teething problems the party is facing in the region. As youth of the party, it is the expectation of the youth secretariat that you will rather team up solidly behind the party to unite its rank and file instead coming up with these unfounded and baseless allegations which has the tendency sowing bad seeds within the party in the region. The minority leader has been the backbone in supporting party activities not only within the tamale metropolis but the entire region as a whole."
Background
Some angry party thugs attacked and destroyed properties at the NDC Regional Secretariat on Tuesday August 23, to register their dissatisfaction over the selection of Mr. Ali Adolf as the NDC acting Regional Chairman.
The Ghana Police Service later said it was on a manhunt for the persons who masterminded the attack on the Northern Regional Office of NDC.
A group calling itself a coalition of NDC youth groups in Tamale accused the Minority Leader and the Northern Regional Secretary of the party, Mohammed Abdul Salam of "indiscriminate arrest" of the party’s youth.
The youth groups claim it is part of efforts by the Tamale South legislator to “dwindle the fortunes of the NDC party in the region.”
The coalition including the Nanakrom, Alkaida, Aluta, Nato Boys, Swag, Gooni Gbeni and Bukurisung Youth Associations claim the police in Tamale have been indiscriminately invading their bases to arrest their members, after the attack on the NDC Regional Office on Tuesday.
A statement issued by the coalition on Friday, August 25 accused the police of arresting seven persons including the Deputy Northern Regional Communications Officer of the party, Hardi Pagazaa who they claim had no involvement in the attack on the party office.
“The police since yesterday, August, 24, 2022 have been arresting people carelessly at the various NDC bases. As at now, no one is at any base within the Tamale metropolis. Police are patrolling the all known bases arresting people who knew nothing about the rampage at the regional party office. Their crime is only that they are youth of the NDC siting at their usual NDC bases. About eight (8) have been since arrested just for sitting at their bases,” they said.
