The Electoral Commission (EC) has warned that any person without a Ghana card will not be allowed to register for a voter ID ahead of the 2024 polls.
"You will not be registered to vote if you do not have a Ghana card," the EC stressed.
The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Dr Serebour Quaicoe issued this warning in an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Kwame Obeng Sarkodie on Accra 100.5 FM on Friday, August 5, 2022,
He was categorical in saying "before one can be eligible to register and subsequently vote in the 2024 general elections, he or she must bear a Ghana card as a legal document."
He explained that the Ghana card will help the EC eliminate the scenarios of age-cheating as well as minors on the electoral roll.
According to him, the Ghana card as the sole document will also eliminate the abuse of the guarantor system.
He emphasised that the use of the Ghana card as the primary document for enrolling on the voter's roll will clean up the system and minimise the situation of bussing people from one polling station to the other during registration exercises in the country.
He added that the EC will open up its offices across the country for continuous registration for people who acquire their Ghana card late to be able to register after the limited registration exercise next year
