Ghana Reinsurance PLC launches 50th anniversary celebrations

Ghana Reinsurance PLC (Ghana Re), has launched its 50th anniversary with an assurance to continue providing world-class reinsurance services to its local and international clients.

The colourful event, congregated government officials, captains of the insurance industry, past and present board, management and staff of Ghana Re at the head office in Accra yesterday.

Series of activities including staff bonding activities, students awards night, scheduled for first week in October, a night of praise and thanksgiving among others have been lined up as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Speaking at the official launch of the anniversary and logo, the Managing Director of Ghana Re, Mr. George Y. Mensah noted that, the 50^th years anniversary is a time for reflection on the 50 years journey and the challenges ahead of the organization.

“Our 50^th anniversary is not so much of festivity but a time for reflection on the 50 years journey and the tenacity of many men and women who stayed the course and charted a vision and a mission which has brought us this far” he said.

“More importantly, it is a time to look forward, focusing on the mountains we need to climb towards the attainment of the great heights dreamed of by our forebears” he added.

Eulogizing the contributions of present and past workers, partners in and outside Ghana, Mr. Mensah said, 50 years on, Ghana Re remains a dynamic organization, ensuring financial reliability through the provision of reinsurance services.

According to the MD, Ghana Re has a lot to do to remain a successful and profitable entity and are determined not to depart from their mandate of been the “Reinsurer of Choice”.

Mr. Edward Boateng, Director General of State Interest and Governance Authority SIGA), who was the guest of honor commended Ghana Re for paying dividends consistently, an act he described as not been easy.

Mr. Boateng indicated that, Ghana Re is a success story and its business model must be documented and studied in all business schools across the country.

Ghana Reinsurance PLC (Ghana Re) commenced operations in 1972 as the Ghana Reinsurance Organization, and was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company on June 16, 1995.

Most recently, in compliance with the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992), the name of the company was changed from Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited to Ghana Reinsurance PLC.

With fifty years of operation as reinsurance service provider, the company has lived up to its promise of being the “Reinsurance of Choice” on the African continent.
