Race for ANOCA presidency heats up

Accra, June 16, GNA - The race for the presidency of the Association of National Olympic Committees Association (ANOCA) has heated up with only 48 hours to hit the polls. Over five candidates are contesting for the highest office to be declared on Saturday, June 18, according to interviews conducted by the Fidele Waura of Gabon and Cameroonian, Hamad Kalkaba Malbourn. All the candidates are buoyant about their chances of getting the nod to lead the continent for the next four years when the over 300 delegates converge at the International Conference Centre in Accra to decide on their fate in a contest that connoisseurs are predicting to be fierce.

The candidates have so far presented rich and impressive manifestos to the electorates and wait in hope clinching the ultimate post. Almost all the candidates seem to be on the same page with regards to their vision for the continent with the desire of forming a strong ANOCA, which they claim can make the voice of Africa to be heard at the inter-continental level as being the common chorus.

The issue of developing the talents of the African youth to realise their full potential has also ranked high on all the candidates respective agendum. This they promise by providing the right platform for them to exhibit their talents.

Most of the candidates have also indicated their desire to help generate the needed funds for infrastructure development on the continent, which will see to the realisation of developing the talent of the youth. Obviously their high points remain with the supposed common desire and promise to clamp down on corruption, a supposed canker that has been hampering the progress of Africa in all spheres of life. From the beautiful ideas presented by the candidates, one is tempted to believe that sports on the continent will witness a major boost in four years time if any of them is selected to head the august body, even though such ideas and promises on most occasions turn out to be negative as is experienced in Africa politics.

It is therefore likely that the candidates will simply forget their ideas immediately they are voted into office, but with the high rate of awareness on the continent now, they can be assured that they will never have it easy should they fail to deliver. It therefore behoves on them to ensure that they go all out to implement their policies or bear the consequences at the next elections.
