NPP Break in communication affected NPP's performance in 2020—National Youth Organiser aspirant
JUN 29, 2022 LISTEN

Mr Prince Kamal Gumah, a National Youth Organiser aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says a break in communication between the Government and the grassroots affected the Party's performance in the 2020 presidential elections.

In the 2020 presidential election, the NPP garnered 6,730,413 votes (representing 51.295 per cent of the total valid votes cast) as against 5,716,609 votes in 2016 (representing 53.84 per cent of the total valid votes cast).

Mr Gumah said his engagements with Party members, especially with the youth across the 16 regions revealed that the performance of the Government was not reflective in the lives of the youth and that fazed their commitment to the Party.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, he said though the NPP Government had made strides particularly in the areas of job creation, Party members, including youth organisers were cut off from those opportunities.

“Seventy per cent of Nana Addo's vote in 2020 came from the youth and if the youth are dissatisfied, how did it come?

“We are talking about the Nana Addo Government creating 2.2 million jobs and 7,000 scholarships, but we still have youth organisers who are qualified and who actually applied for jobs and still didn't get the jobs,” Mr Gumah said.

He said when given the nod as National Youth Organiser, he would set up a 24-hour communication centre at his office to take the concerns of the Party youth and work to address them.

Mr Gumah said the youth had a crucial role to play in the NPP's quest to “break the eight” and urged the Party to do more to win their trust and commitment.

He emphasised the need for the Party to resource its youth wing at all levels by providing them with the needed logistical support to enable them to execute their mandate effectively.

Mr Gumah said he would ride on his experience as a successful businessman to create job opportunities for the youth, and also train those with business ideas to establish their own businesses.

The NPP's national executive elections is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium from July 15 to 17, 2022.
