The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of Ghana has disclosed that its investigations into Marwako Fast Food Ltd over alleged food poisoning have revealed that it has poor levels of sanitation and hygiene in the food preparation areas at all three branches in Accra.

The FDA has been investigating Marwako for weeks after some customers were hospitalised for food poisoning.

Today, a release to provide an update on investigations by the FDA has disclosed that the Abelenkpe and La branches were heavily contaminated.

In addition, the FDA uncovered that there were heavy pathogens that may be linked to food poisoning.

“Analyses of samples of food, some juice drinks, and swaps taken from the environment at the East Legon branch of Mawarko Fast Food Limited indicate that there was heavy microbial load (pathogens) which may be linked to the food borne disease reported.

“Samples collected from the Abelenkpe and La branches were also found to be heavily contaminated.

“The levels of sanitation and hygiene in the food preparation areas in all three facilities were poor,” parts of the release form the FDA reads.

Meanwhile, the FDA is assuring the public that it will continue to closely monitor all activities at Marwako Fast Foods Limited to ensure compliance with directives and applicable regulatory requirements.
