Ejura Constituency Election in Focus: Allow Delegates To Make Their Choices...
24.05.2022 LISTEN

The upcoming branch and constituency elections are as crucial as the election in 2024. What will transpire in the upcoming constituency election has a great influence on the NDC's chances in 2024.

We are all yearning for John Dramani Mahama to come back to power and rescue Ghana from this vision less government. It is the same way the good people of Ejura-Sekyedumasi wish to have Hon. Mohammed Bawa Braimah elected again as MP in 2024.

All the above hopes will not come on a silver platter if we fail to follow due process and allow an open contest for all deserving aspirants.

Let's be guided by history: Exactly 10 years ago, (2012) we lost the Ejura seat for the first time since 1992 to the NPP simply because of our internal cracks at the time. We reunited and restored it in 2016 and further cemented it in the 2020 elections.

We cannot afford to 'gift' Ejura seat to NPP any longer and this will mean that we must do our homework perfectly.

The upcoming constituency election must be a concern to all members of our great party, but the ultimate decision should be made by delegates.

I, therefore, urge our party leadership to ensure neutrality, fairness, and an open contest without interference or protecting any candidate. Our delegates are indeed very watchful, and they have a better assessment of who becomes our next constituency leaders.

There are allegations of other aspirants being discouraged not to contest while other candidates are being 'pushed in' and protected. This is already building tension and creating division within the party. We must not allow it to explode after the constituency election. We must defuse the anxiety by not imposing candidates on delegates. No position is reserved for any individual.

I believe that a candidate must lose or win happily without suspecting any sabotage. This is how we can reunite after the election and move together into a bigger battle in 2024.

Our party's constitution is very clear, and we must not deviate from it.

I wish all constituency executive hopefuls the best of luck. Be courageous and bold. Go for Gold!
