CLOGSAG strike continues after inconclusive meeting with fair wages, finance and employment ministries

The industrial action declared by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) yesterday continues unabated after an inconclusive meeting with government.

The Association met with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Ministry of Finance, and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission on their demands over members' “neutrality allowance” but no agreement was reached.

Mr Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, said they would get back to the National Executive Council on the outcome of the meeting, stressing, “the strike will continue.”

“Our issues are still standing, and we wait for our concerns to be properly addressed.”

Dr John Kumah, a Deputy Minister of Finance, said they were hoping the Association would call off the strike going forward.

He said they were content with how the negotiations were going on, saying, he hoped the Association would reach a consensus with Government.

Dr Kumah said that though public finances were “tight and difficult,” they hoped to have a fruitful engagement with the Association.

CLOGSAG on Thursday, April 21, 2022, embarked on an industrial action over delay in paying “neutrality allowances” due its members.

According to CLOGSAG, it expected the allowance to have been paid immediately after a meeting with Government and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to that effect on January 20, 2022, but after more than three months, the allowance was yet to be paid.
