NPP Nandom: NPP Constituency Chairman accuses Ambrose Dery of deletion of names of Polling Station Executives
MAR 22, 2022 LISTEN

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nandom Constituency and Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery has ordered the committee set to organize internal party elections within the New Patriotic Party in Nandom, to remove names of those who are not “loyal” to him.

This was disclosed by the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Simon Kuubeyangdaar, who said the names of all those removed or denied from contesting the Polling Station Executive and Electoral Area Coordinators elections was simply an instruction they were following.

Some of these aggrieved party faithful after several failed attempts to get the matter resolved in the constituency, travelled to Wa to see the party Regional Chairman to help resolve the matter.

After listening to the Polling Station Executives, Mr. Sebastian B. Kangbere, the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) called the Nandom Constituency Chairman, Mr. Simon Kuubeyangdaar on the telephone who said he acted on the instructions of the MP, Ambrose Dery.

Mr. Simon said, “Chairman, we are done with the exercise in the constituency except for Gengenkpe Polling Station Chairman who has issues with the MP so the big man asked that we remove his name and some two others from the list.”

He added, “Mr. Zakaria Osman and Mr. Issah Sahanun of Nandom Local Council Polling Station were removed on the instructions of the MP.

“All those people are not in good relations with the MP so we were instructed not to give them the forms. The Gengenkpe Chairman even told me he was coming to report the issue to you because he and some others have not been given the forms,” the Constituency Chairman went further.

The telephone conversation was on loudspeaker and all the aggrieved Polling Station Executives present heard clearly what the Nandom Constituency Chairman.

Mr. Kangbere ended the call and promised to resolve the matter as soon as possible. He also promised to speak with Mr. Ambrose Dery to find out if indeed he gave those instructions to the constituency chairman.

Mr. Clement Nomwaa, one of the aggrieved persons from Gengenkpe Primary School Polling Station told the Regional Chairman that his suspicion about the MP trying to always have his way has been confirmed.

He said, “now I know why I have been denied the forms.”

Mr. Zakaria Osman asked if the MP wanted to run the party as though it was his personal property.

“My secretary and I had called our constituency chairman to enquire about the forms, but he said he knew nothing about it. But hearing him on phone today saying we were not given the forms because there are issues between the MP and us surprises me. Why didn’t he tell us this all this while?” Mr. Zakaria asked.

He lamented, “Must everyone agree with you at all times? We, as party people have our minds of our own and are not computers."

“Must I be in the good books of the MP before I am allowed to contest for a post in the party? Is the party for him alone? Is it his personal property? These are the acts that does not allow the party to grow in Nandom” said Umar Mohammed who was denied the application forms.

Mr. Aloysius Nuobeyagr was also allegedly denied the chance to contest to be elected as Electoral Area Coordinator for the Ketuo Electoral Area.

He accused the Constituency Chairman of the blatant abuse and disregard of the rules and regulations of the 2022 internal party contest.

When the reporter contacted the NPP Regional Chairman, regarding the issues raised by the Polling Station Executives, he said, it was not possible to solve the concerns of the PSEs in the region even though he promised to resolve the issue when they went to him.

He said, “it is not possible to resolve the concerns of the PSEs here in the region but in Accra. The party’s constitution states that when the complaints involve the MP, the region has no power to deal with it.”

The NPP Regional Chairman explained that the party constitution states that once a petition involves the MP of the area, the matter will have to be taken to Accra for redress.

“Since the Nandom case involves Ambrose who is the MP of the area, the case will have to be taken to Accra but I think they should not waste their time and money because there is no way they can go and win in Accra over Ambrose,” the NPP Regional Chairman stressed.

The reporter tried to get Ambrose Dery, MP for Nandom for his comments, although he read WhatsApp messages sent to him, he did not respond and neither did he answer his phone when the reporter called.
