NPP Fomena: Party office painters with NDC colours would be punished for acting on misinformation — John Boadu
MAR 11, 2022 LISTEN

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary John Boadu has said party members who painted the Fomena Constituency office in the Ashanti Region with colours connoting a different political party would be sanctioned.

On Monday 7, over one hundred disgruntled members of the governing NPP in the Fomena constituency demonstrated and re-painted the party's office with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) colours.

They claimed filing of nominations are being shrouded in secrecy by the constituency leadership in an agenda to bring back the Independent Member of Parliament for Fomena who doubles as the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah to the NPP who left the party, contest as an independent candidate in the 2020 elections and won.

But addressing the press at the party's national headquarters on Thursday, John Boadu, denied the opening of nominations forms in Fomena.

"It is never true that we've opened nominations and handed over nomination forms to the independent candidate. It is never true, but in due course when matters are settled and requires that nominations be opened we will open for party faithfuls willing to contest to do so," he stressed.

He stated that nominations are yet to be opened in the constituency and that the perpetrators acted based on misinformation.

"As we speak now, we haven't opened nominations at Fomena, we've not closed nominations, we haven't sent forms there, we haven't indicated the time for vetting, we haven't indicated when to vote. But someone misinformed the constituency that nominations have been opened and forms handed over to the independent member of parliament," he added.

He stressed that the leadership will sanction such persons for relying on misinformation to create chaos in the constituency.

"What is worrying is party members acting based on misinformation from an individual to create chaos in the constituency, to the extent that our party office is painted with a different political party colours is unacceptable and the party will not tolerate such acts.

"All the party needs to do is to conduct investigations into the matter and sanction the perpetrators. We will sanction them lawfully."
