Ghana beat Scotland in Polo match

Accra, Feb. 16, GNA - Accra Polo Club of Ghana beat visiting Scotland Polo Club of the United Kingdom by three goals to two and-a-half goals in their international polo match played at the Accra Polo Grounds on Saturday.

The match which was played to mark the centenary celebration of the Accra Polo Club saw the visitors who were given a half goal due to their weak handicap opening the scoring three minutes inside the First Chukka through skilful Alistair Achibald.

Achibald was on hand again to give the visitors the second goal four minutes inside the Second Chukka but the Ghanaians repulsed the attack and snatched a goal a minute later through Kenneth Quartey. The Ghanaians from thence threw everything into the game and scored two quick goals in the Third Chukka through Adamu Yaro and Michael Beckley.

Woolworth Limited and Geodrill Limited jointly sponsored the competition.

Mr Sulemana Idrissu, Captain of the Accra Polo Club praised the two companies for their sponsorship and called on other corporate bodies to help develop the sport in the country.
