Shai Osudoku MP assists 54 unemployed girls in dressmaking and hairdressing

Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Shai Osudoku Constituency in Greater Accra Region has funded the training and graduation of 54 unemployed young girls in dressmaking and hairdressing in her constituency.

The beneficiaries all graduated with start-up equipment such as hair dryers, hand sewing machines and other equipment to aid them in the start of their work.

Addressing a gathering at a graduating ceremony of the beneficiaries, Madam Ocloo said the increasing youth population over the years coupled with the limited opportunities to acquire employable skills was a cause for concern.

She stated that the unemployment figures have risen and could pose a security threat to the country therefore , acquiring employable skills and training for the women especially was the greatest starting point to address the canker.

"Therefore, we designed the 'Member of Parliament Apprenticeship programme' to cater to the missing gaps,’’ she indicated.

Madam Ocloo noted that the programme is geared towards equipping women with employable skills and a sustainable career that can provide for their future growth and betterment.

"Sixty-two constituents were selected from the various communities and placed under the program. An average number of them were assigned to a coach, madam or a trainer. At the end of the training, 54 have successfully passed out and are here before us for this memorable occasion. They were provided with basic equipment for the commencement of work,” she indicated.

The MP advised the beneficiaries to ensure that the training acquired becomes their guide so that others too would benefit from the skills acquired.

"Do not fold your arms and close the opportunity to other people who would wish to learn from your experiences. Take on the world and make Shai-Osudoku a better place,” she told the beneficiaries.

She lamented over the politicisation of the programme, saying, "we cannot continue to politicise everything. I am the MP elect. Thus, whatever gain or benefit or support I bring forth is for the betterment of Shai-Osudoku. The opportunities are open to everyone irrespective of colour, party, or religion. This is not an NPP or NDC affair. This is a Shai-Osudoku development affair.”

As part of his contribution, the District Chief Executive (DCE) supported the program with Ghc2000, three pieces of hairdryers and two sewing machines.
