Is Simon Agbovi an NDC Agent Provocateur?

It probably worked in the past to good effect and with magical wonders when the ethnic chauvinists and tribal supremacy nationalists who ran the show had the deck of cards of the internal political-party game plan dauntingly and effectively stacked against the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Presidential Candidacy Ticket in both 2008 and 2012 Presidential Elections. Fortunately, presently, it surefire as Hell is not going to work. It is also indisputably clear that venturing into the 2024 General Election, the national political game is decidedly the New Patriotic Party’s to lose; and there can be absolutely no gainsaying that the Prime Candidate for the National Democratic Congress to beat is none other than the two-term substantive Vice-President of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Ghana, namely, Alhaji-Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Vice-President Bawumia is also the Candidate that the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) most fears to face in the 2024 Presidential Election, because Alhaji Bawumia has absolutely no classmate among the topmost echelons of the National Democratic Congress, if also because he is the definitive antidote to the Anti-Kabonga Propaganda Spiel that has constituted the mainstay of Kwame Gonja’s strategic political game plan and electioneering campaign platform since at least 2012, when the Bole-Bamboi native, from the Akufo-Addo-created Savannah Region, told a teeming throng of party supporters and sympathizers in Tamale, the capital of the old Northern Region, that about the only way that they could be forced or pressured to consider casting their ballots for the “Uncircumcised Kabonga” at the time, was in the highly unlikely event of the New Patriotic Party’s movers-and-shakers’ having Candidate Bawumia’s name placed at the very top of the party’s 2012 Presidential Nomination Ticket, while Candidate Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was ceded the Vice-Presidential Candidacy or Running-Mate slot.

That is how insolent and primitive and savagely myopic and pathologically ethnocentric the mind of Kwame Gonja works. Dear Reader, I bet my once criminally desecrated late mother’s tomb that you thought it was only the Trokosi Nationalist Revolutionaries who were the most “inward-looking” bunch of Ghanaian citizens. Now, you are privileged with another opportunity to rethink your prejudice. In short, it is only Dr. Bawumia, more than any other candidate among the topmost leadership of the New Patriotic Party, who best answers the insufferably invidious challenge of Kwame Gonja. Americans have a saying that runs as follows: “Be careful of what you wish for, because sooner than later you may very well get it.” Now that their most visceral wishes eerily appear to be fast coming to fruition, “Boot-for-Boot,” the faux socialist and populist leaders of the National Democratic Congress have luridly resorted to playing the jaded dirty communist gambit of divide-and-conquer.

Which is why they have decided to pit the Trade Minister, who, by the way, has the very unenviable track record of being a party pooper and a quitter just when the help of the bravest and boldest team-playing party stalwarts was most needed to fight off these kleptocratic armchair social democrats. The funny thing here, though, is the fact that perennially and stereotypically speaking, the operatives of the Anlo-Ewe Trokosi Nationalist Cabal are no jolly friends of the Akan, least of all, Akans of Asante descent. That was the operational theme song of the Rawlings-Tsikata-led “revolutionary” junta of the erstwhile Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC). Which is also why when anybody with the suspicious byline of Simon Agbovi steps up to play a pro-Alan Cash propaganda hack, your surefire bet cannot be other than the unmistakable fact of Mr. Agbovi’s likely being a handsomely paid media mole surreptitiously dispatched by the Mahama Posse to do its dirty bidding.

This is absolutely nothing short of indescribably grotesque and downright comedic because, by and large, the communications operatives of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia camp are far more sophisticated than their clinically jejune and scandalously crass opposite numbers among the Mahama Posse (See “Disqualify Bawumia for Defying Party Directives – Alan Group” Modernghana.com 12/19/21). Not only does Vice-President Bawumia more than amply answer to the Anti-Kabonga sally volleys of Kwame Gonja, the former Deputy-Governor of the Bank of Ghana is also far better educated, more culturally enlightened and professionally efficient than Kwame Gonja who, but for a career-long apprenticeship to the late Chairman Jerry John Rawlings, would have absolutely no remarkable political profile to stand on, other than the generally lackluster patrimonial hand-me-down record of a politician father with the academic and professional achievement of a post-primary schoolteacher in a non-cabinet ministerial portfolio in the Kwame Nkrumah-led government of the tautologically named Convention People’s Party (CPP), who was once summarily fired for rancidly fanning the criminal flames of rank official corruption.
