On Aviation This Week today, the focus is placed on some of the topical aviation industry stories from December 6 - 11, 2021 relevant to Ghana’s aviation space. Below are the highlights:

Ghana Makes COVID-19 Vaccination a Requirement for International Travels

Ghana’s health authorities have announced that starting at midnight of December 12, 2021, all international travellers arriving in Ghana will be required to show proof of a full vaccination against COVID-19. This new directive is to be observed together with a negative PCR test before travel, the filling of a health declaration form and an antigen test on arrival.

Aviance Ghana Handled 7.5 Million Vaccines at KIA

Ground handling and cargo company, Aviance Ghana on December 8, 2021 handled 7.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA). The vaccines were donated to Ghana by the US Government.

AWA Releases November 2021 Operational Results

Africa World Airlines' (AWA) operational performance data shows that the airline scheduled 1,091 flights in November 2021. Over 50,400 passengers were transported over the period, while 3 were denied boarding due to oversales. 14 flights were delayed beyond 2 hours and 4 were also delayed due to bad weather.

GCAA Observes International Aviation Day

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on December 7, 2021, commemorated International Civil Aviation Day by organising a flag-raising ceremony. The day seeks to create awareness about the impact of civil aviation on global development.

Air Maroc Extends Suspension of Commercial Flight Services

Royal Air Maroc has extended the temporary suspension it placed on all its commercial flight activities to and from Morocco which was expected to elapse on December 13, 2021 to December 31, 2021. Passengers with affected bookings made directly with the airline can demand refunds, change of dates or vouchers.

Qatar Airways Ups Frequencies on 18 Destinations

Qatar Airways has responded to the growing passenger demands ahead of the holiday season by increasing flight frequencies on 18 of its destinations from its Doha hub. The destinations include Berlin, Helsinki, Bangkok, Zurich, among others.

Ethiopian Airlines Offering 30% Discount ahead of Ethiopia’s Great Homecoming

As part of efforts to encourage people to visit Ethiopia during the Christmas and New Year Seasons, Ethiopian Airlines is offering up to a 30% discount for bookings made until December 20, 2021 for travels within January 2022.
