Aviation This Week – November Edition 4

This week’s edition of Aviation This Week focuses on some of the topical aviation industry stories between November 22 - 28, 2021 relevant to Ghana’s aviation space. Here are the highlights:

PassionAir Starts Ho and Wa Flights in December

PassionAair will be expanding its route network with the inclusion of Ho and Wa as its latest destinations starting December 2021.

With a starting price of GHS 209, flights between Accra and Ho will be operated on Saturdays and Sundays beginning on December 4, 2021. Also, flights between Accra and Wa will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning on December 3, 2021, at a starting price of GHS395.

Enjoy Rewards When you Check-in Online with Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines says passengers who use its mobile app service or website to check-in will now have increased chances of receiving rewards from the airline. Passengers can receive free baggage allowances, free business class upgrades or free tickets.

Passengers Arriving in the UK to Undergo a Day-Two PCR Test

The United Kingdom (UK) Government says all persons arriving in the UK will now be required to take a day-two PCR test after arrival, and will also be required to isolate until a negative COVID-19 result is released. This follows the discovery of a new variant of the COVID-19 virus, Omicron.

Kenya Airways and South African Airways Deepen Cooperation

Kenya Airways and South African Airways have signed a new cooperation agreement which will see both airlines capitalize on their strengths to offer enhanced passenger and cargo connectivity, and promote general Africa trade.

Black Friday Airline Deals

Starting from USD 649 and USD 2,159 for economy and business classes respectively, Qatar Airways is offering customers savings on their holiday bookings. Bookings must be made by November 28, 2021, for travels before September 30, 2022.

Kenya Airways is offering up to a 30% discount on passenger airfares from now until November 29, 2021.

British Airways’ Black Friday offer among others, allows passengers to fly from Heathrow to New York, Boston and Philadelphia with limited seats starting at £299. Bookings must be made by November 30, 2021.

South Africa Airways is offering reduced ticket prices for Johannesburg to Accra with an offer starting at R7, 503 (South African Rand). The offer ends today, November 28, 2021.

EgyptAir on Friday, November 26, 2021, gave passengers up to a 50% discount on tickets purchased to any of its destinations. The offer was opened at 12: 00 AM local time for each country the airline operates to and tickets were subjected to travels between January 1, 2022, and May 15, 2022.

Air Côte d'Ivoire Denies Seizure of Aircraft in Mali

Following reports of Air Côte d'Ivoire having one of its aircraft seized in Mali for its inability to settle debts owed a businessman, the airline has clarified that there was a failed attempt at seizing the aircraft which did not have any significant effect on its operations from Mali on November 22, 2021.

South African Airways Provides Customers with Travel Flexibility

South African Airways has assured customers of its commitment to them should their travels be affected by any new COVID-19 restriction imposed by countries it operates to. This follows the discovery of a new COVID-19 variant.

Customers will be eligible for credit vouchers or refunds in addition to one free date change for all ticket types. The credit vouchers will preserve a passenger’s ticket value and extend its validity until March 31, 2023.

Delta to Deny Passengers with Visits to Southern Africa Entry into the US

Delta Air Lines says it will not allow foreign nationals who have been to South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi and Eswatini in the last 14 days period prior to travel to enter the United States. Affected passengers can modify their travel plans at no cost.

GACL Board Inaugurated

The Board of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has been officially inaugurated by the Ministry of Transport. The Ministry pledged its support for the board and charged them to support the management of GACL.

United to Fly Daily to Accra Starting Next Year

All other things being equal, United Airlines will upgrade its 3x weekly flights between Washington DC and Accra to daily flights. After the special holiday daily frequency scheduled for December 2021 to January 2022, United will fly regularly on the route from May 2022.

GCAA Hints of a Licensing Program for Air Traffic Safety Electronic Personnel

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has begun discussions with the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) and the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronic Association (GhATSEA) on the need to start a program to certify air traffic safety electronic personnel in Ghana.

UAE’s Golden Jubilee Merchandise Now Available at Emirates Official Store

Emirates has made available for sale a collection of limited items to mark the UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebration. The collection consists of polo shirts, scarves, caps, lapel pins, et cetera, and can be purchased at Emirates Official Store, Dubai International Airport, among others.
