Taxi drivers to receive 'Ghana Cares Obatanpa' training in 2022 — Dr Letsa assures

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, has revealed that tourism sector operators, including taxi drivers, will receive training in January 2022 under the “Ghana Cares Obatanpa” programme.

He said tourism was a key area being focused on because it was one of the low-hanging fruits that the Region could rely on for income generation.

Dr Letsa, addressing participants during a tourism seminar and stakeholders meeting, noted that taxi drivers must be trained on the etiquette of picking people from the airport, speaking to them politely, and reading the google map and taking guests around, adding that there was a lot to do.

He said there was the need for all to come on board since the programme was geared towards the development of the Volta Region.

Dr Letsa said interventions, such as the Fair, were geared towards improving the economy and bringing investors to the region, adding that “there is something positive happening in the Volta region.”

He said the commencement of Passion Air flight services to the region gave greater opportunities to all, especially operators in the tourism industry, which would lift the industry to another level.

“Volta region is trending all over the world, people are calling us from all corners of this world and we must be proud.”

Dr Letsa challenged young entrepreneurs in the region to start mobilising tourists from all over the world that there was an air transport service in Ho, taxis to take them around and many eateries.

He commended the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Association of Ghana Industries and called for support to ensure success.

Dr Letsa expressed hope that the two days per week flight by Passion Air would be increased to more days and become a daily service.

He said there would be district fairs and sector fairs in the region in 2022 with Hohoe hosting the Northern Sector Fair and Sogakope hosting the Southern Sector.

Dr Letsa said preparations were advanced to ensure that the airport was safe for its first commercial flight.

The “Ghana Cares Obatanpa” programme is being rolled out to drive the country's economic growth for the next three years as part of Ghana's plans to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
