One hundred and four (104) factories undertaken undee government’s flagship programme, One-District One Factory (1D1F), have successfully being completed and are currently operating, providing jobs to several thousands of people.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme earlier today, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the total number of projects under 1D1F stood at 278 per a recently published report on the initiative.

“Out of the 278, 165 are new projects started from the scratch, 24 are in the pipeline, 110 were existing factories while 150 are almost complete”, he further explained.

The One-District, One District initiative was introduced by President Akufo-Addo led administration in 2017 to transform Ghana’s economy through industrialization and job creation.

The factories being established are privately-owned by mostly Ghanaian entrepreneurs with government creating the enabling business-friendly environment for them to operate.

The Information Minister said President Akufo-Addo inaugurated some of the completed factories and inspected progress of work on some of the on-going projects during his recent working visits to the regions.

Responding to a request to set up a public online university, Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, said the President had already tasked the Education Minister to expedite action on a similar venture.

“The Minister of Education of currently working on the establishment of an Open University by the State and will run online so I’m sure we will soon have the details from the sector minister”, he added.
