Coach in court for impregnating 15-year-old niece

George Daniels, Brong Ahafo Regional Athletics coach on Wednesday appeared before a Sunyani Community Tribunal for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old student. Daniels, 54, one time Ghanaian international sprinter, pleaded not guilty and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on December 4. Presenting the case for the prosecution at the Tribunal presided by Mr Charles Adjei Wilson, Police Inspector Setina Aboagye, said the accused is an uncle of the victim who is staying with him. She said the girl's mother brought her from Cape Coast to Sunyani last year to stay with the uncle to continue with her education. In February this year, while the girl was fast asleep the accused inserted his fingers into her private part. The prosecutor said the accused subjected the victim to the ordeal for some time and later had sexual intercourse with her. The victim who could no longer bear the behaviour of the accused reported the matter to a certain woman but that could not stop the accused from continuing his nocturnal activities with the girl. The victim fell sick after some months and attended Sunyani police clinic where it was detected that she had been sexually assaulted and the case was reported at Sunyani WAJU office where a medical form was issued to the girl to attend hospital. The victim returned with a medical report that indicated that she was three months pregnant and the accused was arrested.
