No grace period for expired products — FDA warns

The food and beverage regulatory body, Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has dispelled rumours that product that expires products are still useful after some grace period.

According to the FDA, products that expire are not useful and have no grace period for final expiration.

Every product expires on the day the manufacturer indicates on the product adding that there is no grace period for final expiration.

Madam Jemima Offei Agyepong, Senior Regulatory Officer in charge of Cosmetic Science at FDA warned against the use of some products after expiration.

She gave this warning speaking on the ‘Ayeeko Ayeekoo’ mid-morning show hosted by Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM Thursday, October 28, 2021.

'Every product expires on the day the manufacturer indicated on the product, she stressed.

She took the opportunity to caution the public against patronizing products that have expired a few days after the original date of expiration.

She explained that every product comes with manufacturing date and expiry date noting that products that do not come with such details are not approved by FDA.

As we get nearer to the yuletide people will be seen selling products nearing expiration under the pretext of’ buy- one- get -one-free bonanzas, she cautioned
