The United States government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has selected Media General’s Mr Johnnie Beresford Hughes and seven other media personalities as ambassadors under the Justice Sector Support System Activity (JSSSA) to add their voices in upholding legal justice in the country.

The Justice Sector Support System Activity (JSSSA) is to enhance accountability and also highlight potential reforms to improve the justice delivery system in Ghana.

The JSSS activity is aimed at Ghana's legal based tracking system through citizens engagement by helping amplify their voices to demand accountability to enhance justice delivery in the country.

The media ambassadors for the Justice Sector Support System Activity (JSSSA) are Johnnie Hughes of TV3, Abdul Hayi Moomen of GTV, Manasseh Awuni Azure of the Fourth Estate, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng of UTV, Nana Yaa Konadu of Peace FM and three others.

Urging the eight media ambassadors to be committed to the task, Justice Yonny Kulendi of the Supreme Court of Ghana said “there is no reason anybody should be in prison without a warrant and that is the reason why it is important that we have ambassadors for this invaluable programme with people who commit themselves, commit their time, commit their resources to be the people who will go out there and tell the story”.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Hughes pointed out that “I have close affinity to this whole justice delivery system because I get the understanding that majority of our prisons were not meant to be prisons, we are forcing them to be prisons.

“So we are cramming people into places that are not supposed to be prisons. I would like to reiterate that, we know that you work in a regimented space ADP but when we call on you please answer and please give us the information”.
