Should it be true the information reaching me regarding the direct intervention by the Office of the President to ensure Samuel Addai Agyekum, his nominee for the Kumawu Sekyere District DCE post, gets elected by hook or by crook, then the president has soiled his reputation beyond redemption.

The information is that the president has sacked four of the government appointees on the Kumawu Sekyere District assembly on suspicion that they have twice joined hands with others to vote against Samuel Addai Agyekum. He has subsequently appointed four new ones who are tasked to vote four Samuel to get him elected in the upcoming third time election to give him what is a false “third time lucky”.

What do the president and the NPP as a party and government take Kumawu people for? Do they take us for fools or what? If the people have come to the realisation that the DCE, Samuel Addai Agyekum, has done nothing for the district hence must be replaced, why should the president and his government collude to impose him on the district?

Is the president more interested in the propaganda he does for him, permanently going on air praising him and telling the whole country that the president has done this or that for Kumawu Sekyere District whereas in reality, nothing of the sort has been done?

I understand Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, is the one who has influenced the president to take that unfortunate line of action.

Do the NPP learn from their bitter past experiences? The president has the right to do what he is alleged to have done. However, the electorate also have the right to exercise their vote at general elections in any manner that they feel appropriate.

I have been made to understand, according to my reliable source of information that the president has threatened that if the assembly members do not vote for Samuel Addai Agyekum, he will nominate someone else from a different part of Ghana to head the Kumawu Sekyere District.

If the 1992 Republican Constitution does bestow that prerogative on him, why doesn’t he exercise it but rather chooses to corrupt himself in the way he is alleged to have done? Unless the Constitution forbids the nomination of someone from a different district to go and head another district, I would have preferred the president to go for that option than to seek to stealthily impose Samuel Addai Agyekum on the district contrary to the wish of the people.

The president and the NPP government and party should ask themselves what are the achievements of Samuel Addai Agyekum in the district apart from frequenting radio and TV stations, lying in praises of the president and doing the dirty work for some traditional chiefs supportive of by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah?

The president is fortunate to be having his two terms in office but his successor NPP flagbearer-cum-presidential-candidate will suffer the repercussions of his actions and inactions. That is certain!

Kumawu Constituency should continue with their inextricable marriage to NPP at their own peril.

Why is Kumawu being treated like a used dirty rag only good to be cast away by both the government and the supposedly powerful traditional overlords to the detriment of the inhabitants?

Have the NPP learnt any lesson from the parliamentary election results of the Adansi-Fomena constituency in 2020?
