The Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) will hold a one-day HIV/ AIDS Awareness sports festival at the Coco Beach Resort at Nungua on Thursday as part of activities marking their Annual Hair Week celebration. Mrs Joyce Appiah, National President of the association, who announced this in Accra on Tuesday, said the games, which involve Soccer, Tug-of-War, Ampe, and Sack Race, are being sponsored by the Ghana AIDS Commission.

She said it has been the policy of the association to create awareness among its members on the need to abstain from indiscriminate sex and keep faith with their partners, especially the married ones.

Mrs Appiah said through games, their members would be mobilised to form a platform where they would be educated on the deadly disease.

The National President said the association had launched HIV/AIDS Fund and called on organisations, individuals and corporate bodies to contribute to it to enable the association to carry out its work.

A clean-up exercise and a public lecture on the disease had earlier on been held as part of the celebrations.
