The increased number of murder cases and ritual killings in Ghana causes more and louder voices to demand capital punishment by different means equally.

Over years in various jurisdictions, this issue had been debated in all possible ways leading many countries to the abolishing of handing down death sentences and gave momentum to the fight to globally ban it. While countries like China have introduced capital punishment to even fight serious corruption and others insist on it based on cultural and religious grounds.

Laws in any society are a vital part of people's daily life to know what and what is not acceptable and in which way. Humans to be playing by the rules is on all levels of correction only possible when laws have a clear set of consequences and the enforcement of it.

In many countries, life sentences for murders mean release from prison after fifteen years when the convict has shown remorse and changed. In other jurisdictions, the time is longer. The pain in the hearts of loved ones left behind is a life sentence after all while some can find peace in their heart over time; in rare cases, strong ones find forgiveness in their heart for the murderer.

Pro and Cons on this issue come down to the fact that no one needs to murder another human being and that laws without consequences are useless. Each society needs to determine the value of life and the consequences when forcefully taken for itself.

The argument that even possibly innocent convicted people could be executed seems to speak for the justice system to be fixed as for other less serious cases innocent people are kept in custody.

When people are law-abiding it saves lives always in many different ways.
