The Ghana Police Service will today, Thursday, September 16 block parts of the Liberation and Independence Roads in Accra.

The roadblock is to facilitate the transportation of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who will participate in the extraordinary session at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City.

Addressing the media, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Supt. Alexander Obeng, indicated that affected areas will include; the Kotoka International Airport, Opebia, Akuafo Roundabout, Afrikiko, Ako-Adjei interchange, National Theatre, Ridge Roundabout, and finally Kempinski Hotel.

“The roads will be blocked from Opeibea to Akuafo to Afrikiko and to the Ako-Adjei Interchange to Ridge Roundabout then to the National Theatre. This is the corridor that forms Independence Avenue and Liberation Road. ”

Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Nana Akufo-Addo, is convening an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government to brainstorm over the political situation in the Republic of Guinea.

It will be recalled that Lt. Col. Mamady Doumbouya, Leader of the Special Forces Group, ousted President Alpha Conde in a successful coup d'etat staged in Conakry, Guinea on Sunday, September 5, 2021.

Following this incident, the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS convened an Extraordinary Session via videoconference on 8th September 2021, under the Chairmanship of President Akufo-Addo, to review the political situation in Guinea as well as the political transition in Mali.

The Authority also dispatched a high-level ECOWAS mission to Guinea to assess the situation on the ground.
