NDC flagbearer race: No Mahama contender will attain 1% — Odododiodio MP

Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije believes former President John Dramani Mahama will be the flagbearer for the NDC in the 2024 general elections.

He said no contender will attain 1%.

"About 137 of the NDC representative of the various constituencies in parliament have their support for Mahama.

"So far as I know, I'm certain John Mahama is our flagbearer for the 2024 general elections. Not that we don't have competent people in our fold, but he's the one we've marketed and is the one Ghanaians know and understands governance," he said in an interview on "Face to Face" with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi TV.

Reacting to the controversial "Do or Die" comment by the former President, the Odododiodio lawmaker noted that people misconstrued the statement.

According to him, the comment was meant to encourage the men and women to do away with the business as usual and be extra vigilant at the polling stations to ensure that not a single vote is stolen in 2024.

H.E John Dramani Mahama last week on his thank you tour stated that 2024 general elections will be a "Do or Die" affair.

The comment has been condemned by the New Patriotic Party calling for retraction and apology.

But the former President and the NDC have refused to backtrack explaining it is an idiomatic expression.
