SEP 11, 2021 LISTEN

The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) has called on the government to inaugurate the governing board of the national council on Persons With Disability (PWDs).

“The GFD would like to use this opportunity to respectfully call on the President of the Republic of Ghana, to inaugurate the governing Board of the National Council on Persons with Disability as a matter of urgency as any further delay would seriously derail the progress made so far in the disability sector,” a release from GFD signed by its president Mawunyo Yakor-Dagbah has said.

According to the group, the delay in the commencement of operations of the Board has impacted negatively on the effort of the Council and stakeholders in taking major decisions aimed at promoting inclusion and effective participation of persons with disabilities in the Ghanaian society.

The group argues that if the inauguration continues to delay, there is a high tendency for the needs and interests of persons with disabilities to be overlooked.

Hence the call on the government to inaugurate the governing board of the national council on Persons With Disability.
