Findings from CDD-Ghana research a clear indication that Akufo-Addo must sit up – Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa has stressed that findings of the recent survey by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is an indication that President Akufo-Addo must sit up.

In the survey by the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) after the 2020 general elections, 62% of 2,400 Ghanaians interviewed said they do not have confidence in the ability of President Akufo-Addo “to protect the country’s financial resources in the next four years.”

Analysing the findings during an appearance on News File on Joy FM, Okudzeto Ablakwa stressed that it should be a call to the President to sit up.

“If you do the analysis from all the Afrobarometers and juxtapose it with this survey, it is clear that confidence in the President is at an all-time low. The President should be very worried about that. I think the President has to sit up,” the lawmaker said.

Mr. Ablakwa in his argument to buttress his point said, “there have been very palpable, tangible, concrete examples of corruption [under the governing NPP]. The President has had to fire people. He has had to promise investigations, except that often these investigations lead nowhere.”

“Look at how the Auditor General was hounded out of office… This is a celebrated Auditor General of high repute. Yao Domelevo’s only mistake was to dare to surcharge the Senior Minister.”

Also in the survey by CDD-Ghana, 62% of Ghanaians engaged said they do not have confidence in President Akufo-Addo to curb corruption and official impunity.
