Former Minister for Railways Development Joe Ghartey has surprised many Ghanaians saying he is grateful to God he has not been appointed as a Minister under the second term of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.

Even though persons close to him knew he was still interested in a ministerial position, the Essikado Member of Parliament says God has always granted him several opportunities and put him in places he could not imagine.

He could not stop thanking God for the opportunity to be made a minister in the first term of the NPP government but was still thankful he was not reappointed.

“Whatever happens to me in life is of God. I thank God he gave me a difficult job and I’m grateful to be made Minister and I also thank God that I’m no longer there,” he told Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye of Kesben Accra.

According to the Essikado-Ketan MP, the blessing which came in the disguise of not being a minister of state is his ability to do several things today which he couldn’t do when he was a minister.

He said even though he has stopped practicing as a lawyer, he is able to have time to write some law books and some other businesses which make him accomplished.

His law firm too, he noted, would not be closed as his wife and daughter have all become lawyers and running the firm in his absence. According to him, they only call on him occasionally for advice and direction.

Mr. Ghartey was Ghana’s Attorney-General between 2006 and 2009, and became Ghana Second Deputy Speaker from 2013 to 2017.

He announced immediately after his victory in the 2020 elections his intention to contest the flag bearer position of the NPP for 2024 elections, an announcement which many think cost him a re-appointment in Nana Addo’s second term.
