A former Deputy Western Regional Minister, Alfred Ekow Gyan has died, Modernghana News can report.

Nicknamed ‘Abbot’, the Politician who served the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after short illness.

According to Joel Nelson who is the Western Regional Secretary of the NDC, Alfred Ekow Gyan passed on Wednesday night while on admission at the Maritime Hospital in Accra.

“I can confirm he has passed after a short illness. I’m told he was ill and was receiving treatment at the Maritime Hospital in Accra,” he told Citi News in an interview.

Joel Nelson notes that the news comes as a shock to the NDC fraternity particularly because not many people knew the former Deputy Western Regional Minister had fallen ill.

“I didn’t know about it and I believe a lot of people didn’t know about it too, so it came as a shock to everyone. Calls started coming in around 9:00pm last night to confirm from me, so it was around 10:30 pm that I finally got a confirmation and it was a shock,” the Western Regional Secretary of the NDC shared.

Besides serving in the John Mahama administration, Alfred Ekow Gyan until his passing held the position as the Western Regional Chairman of the NDC Communication Committee and Regional President of the NDC Professionals Forum.

The deceased although failed on two attempts to win the Takoradi Constituency Parliamentary seat for the NDC, he was committed and served the umbrella party to the satisfaction of all.
