MTN Ghana will throughout the month of August give out prizes including cars, motorbikes, laptops, tablets, and cash to its Mobile Money (MoMo) agents, merchants, and customers as part of the 2021 MoMo month celebration.

The MoMo month was first launched in 2012 to educate Ghanaians on the need to embrace digital means of doing financial transactions and has since become an annual tradition of the leading telecommunications company in the country.

On Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the MTN Ghana House at Ridge, Accra, the 9th edition of the MTN Mobile Money Month has been launched on the theme ‘Consolidating Digital Payment for Economic Transformation’.

Speaking on what MTN has planned this year, head of the Mobile Financial Services Commercial Department, Abdul-Majeed Rufai said not only will agents be rewarded with three SUV 4x4 cars but he also hinted that there will be cars up for grabs by customers.

“We will be rewarding our agents this year. There are three SUVs 4x4 at stake for our agents. Apart from that, there are other prizes such as motorbikes, security cameras.

“The merchants also will not be left out. We will be giving away a number of laptops and tablets to our merchants so that they can use it as part of their payments and identify their payments.

“On the part of consumers, as the CEO mentioned, this year’s MoMo month coincides with the 25th anniversary of MTN, our parent company. So the 25th-anniversary promo will also be launched,” Abdul-Majeed Rufai disclosed at the launch.

The Senior Manager at MTN Mobile Money further emphasized that with a number of other goodies at stake, it is an exciting time to be an MTN customer especially if you are a mobile money user.

In his address, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN’s Mobile Money Limited, Mr. Eli Hini shared that his outfit anticipates the growth of digital payments especially with the emergence of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“We believe that if our payment platforms are fully utilized the socio-economic benefits will be enormous. In view of that, we are committed to elevating the level of awareness of digital payments and the benefits that can be derived from these innovations. Today, with the emergence of AfCFTA our markets have been widened, and with the increasing acceptance of e-commerce, digital payments are expected to grow,” he said.

Mr. Eli Hini added, “As we launch MoMo month, I urge all retailers, distributors, and service providers to sign up to MoMo platforms to make payments and also receive payments for goods and services. Let us all contribute our quota in consolidating digital payments in the country.”

The CEO of Mobile Money Limited said as part of its ‘Ambition 2025’, it is aiming at building the largest and most valuable platform business in Africa.

To do this, the company is bent on leveraging on its FinTech Solutions with Mobile Money expected to play a key role.

MTN Ghana says it is keen on enhancing the awareness creation agenda this month to stress the relevance of accepting digital means of payment.

“I will like to remind you that mobile money limited is still committed to creating more awareness on the importance of adopting digital payment preferably through MoMo,” Ruth Badoo who is Senior Manager, MFS Operations and Service Delivery at MTN Ghana said in a welcome address during the launch.

She continued, “We will use this month to highlight the economic benefits of digital payment and also reward customers”.

Activities for MTN Mobile Money Month:

  • Stakeholders forum on 11th August.
  • Promos [Akwaaba Promo, Agents Promo, Merchants promo, Mobile Agents Promo, Consumer promo].
  • MoMo Trivia on the social media pages of MTN Ghana.
  • Field engagement.
  • Fraud attack to embark on education and awareness creation to help fight mobile money fraud.

The various promos are set to go live by the close of today and will run throughout the month before exceeding to October.
