A Political Scientist at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Abass Mohammed says not only is the expulsion of Koku Anyidoho from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) immature, but it is also unfair.

On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, the NDC in a press statement signed by its General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah wrote to inform its former Deputy General Secretary that he has been expelled from the party for misconduct that bothers on anti-party behavior.

Speaking on the decision of the main opposition party in an interview with Starr FM, Abass Mohammed has stressed that the NDC did not show maturity when it towed that line.

“The party actually must demonstrate maturity. It must show a lot of rationality and seriousness in the way it handles matters of this nature. Yes, it is true that the party will want to ensure some discipline in how they do their things, how members conduct themselves but this attempt to ensure discipline must not be misinterpreted or misperceived as the party being anti and above and beyond criticism.

“Because that is what democracy is about. Democracy encourages critiquing, democracy encourages alternate views no matter how radical or different those views are,” the KNUST Political Science Lecturer shared.

According to Abass Mohammed, the decision by the National Democratic Congress is also very unfair.

“…people who perceive the NDC as not being fair to him, to a large extent I think will have a point and will also have the followers and will also have a strong argument,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, in another development, Koku Anyidoho has written to NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu requesting a copy of the expulsion letter. Apparently, the letter intended to inform him of his sacking did not reach him.
