There are certain statements that terminate appointments immediately in the developed countries, whether you a politician, school head, head of the police, or government institution, of which are never taken into consideration in Africa for that person to resign.

Following an armed robbery attack on bullion, which resulted in the of a police officer, one Constable General, Emmanuel Osei, the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, responding to criticism has said that:

“We are doing what we can to protect the people of Ghana. There is no society in the world where there is no crime. Even in the USA, UK, and Sweden, where they, more or less have everything, they still have crime. The only place that doesn’t have crime is heaven and we are not in heaven.”

The comment that shocked Ghanaians also generated hate against the IGP with angry people calling for his resignation.

I have said it over and over that Ghanaian politicians and the high authorities, are the kind of people that never accept responsibilities even if guilty.

Police chiefs have roles to play. First of all, a police chief is in charge of a staff of officers. He responsible for screening and monitoring the team's work by offering incentives, rewards, criticism, and guidance, if any, all within the domain of the chief of police.

The chief of police is responsible for the conduct of officers, making sure that everyone understands their obligations and brings them to an acceptable standard.

The Police Chief makes sure the public is protected and should in case something goes wrong, an investigation should be done with the assurance to the people that everything will be done in their capacity to avoid such occurrences.

Therefore, the IGP making such a statement means he is neither qualified to do his job nor hasn’t any means to protect the people. Therefore, he needs to resign.

Time after time, the Ghana police keep disappointing the people, yet they hate criticisms. It’s more disappointing for the IGP to make such a statement when one of them has lost his life.

I will suggest to Oppong-Boanuh to go and live in heaven, where there are no crimes, then continue receiving his salaries without protecting anyone there.
