There's no better candidate than Bawumia for 2024 — Sunyani East MP
21.06.2021 LISTEN

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh says the 2024 general elections present a unique opportunity for the NPP to break the eight-year alternating pattern of political power.

This he said calls for a candidate who can easily capitalize on the gains made under the current NPP government and also requires a personality who is a dominant force, saying “there can be no better candidate from the NPP well placed for this task than Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

He continued, “Having critically examined the pulse of the NPP members, sympathizers and Ghanaians in general, analyzed the strengths and electoral records of the prospective candidates seeking to lead the party and upon critical and reflective thinking, I’m without a doubt that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has a towering advantage that can cement the victory of the party in the 2024 general elections."

In an interview with Sunyani-based Nimdee FM, Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh said the Vice President has been a strong pillar in the party and in government, and keeps playing vital roles in addressing the needs of the party folks and citizens.

He added that Bawumia has been loyal to the NPP since he was chosen as the running mate in the run-up to the 2008 general elections.

He explained that Dr. Bawumia has proven to be a thorn in the flesh of the NDC with his intellectual approach to national discourse and so has the competence to continue on the transformational path and legacy of President Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh opined that Dr. Bawumia has travelled extensively throughout the various constituencies explaining government’s policies and programmes to Ghanaians with dexterity.

“He has probably done several tours across the country in the past years meeting party grass-root members than all those popping up as potential aspirants and therefore makes him more fit for the job,” he said.

The Sunyani East Legislature said Dr. Bawumia has a national appeal which cuts across ethnicity, religion and persons of all ages and gender.

“Even though a Muslim, he has continually promoted and become a symbol of religious tolerance in the nation endearing him to the hearts of various religious adherents."

He also said during the NPP's first term, Dr. Bawumia led a crusade to digitize every sector of the economy, adding that “technology is what moves the world now, not only has he digitized the economy, but he has also created an enabling environment for businesses to grow which makes the economy buoyant.”
