Akufo-Addo Has Our National Mandate

Akufo-Addo Has Our National Mandate
16.06.2021 LISTEN

It is rather laughable to learn that the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Loser Brigade is planning to impeach President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for supposedly being criminally responsible for the massive crowd that expectedly swamped the funeral grounds in honor and memory of the politically redoubtable and indisputable Akufo-Addo Kingmaker, to wit, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, legendary General-Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the single greatest and most formidable force and factor behind the epochal actualization of the Akufo-Addo Presidency (See “NDC Minority in Parliament Planning to ‘Impeach’ Akufo-Addo – Kweku Baako Hints” Peacefmonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 6/11/21). Maybe somebody needs to educate these fanatical and kleptocratic celebrants of Ghana’s annual Republic Day Holiday, precisely why the country’s very first postcolonial leader, Mr. Kwame Nkrumah, strategically decided to scrap the British-bequeathed Westminster system of people-oriented accountable governance and, instead, opted for the American style of Executive Presidency, which Fourth-Republican Ghana presently operates.

If they did, these double-salary thieving robber-barons would think at the barest minimum twice, perhaps even thrice, before characteristically unwisely attempting to tread pristine and/or politically virgin grounds and territory. The fact of the matter is that the European Airbus’ Payola-Guzzling former President John “Akonfem-Kanazoe” Dramani Mahama has a far greater chance of getting impeached by Parliament than Nana Akufo-Addo who, from what we reliably learn, had officially absolutely no hand in the planning, organizing and hosting of the funeral and burial rites of the man nationally and affectionately called “Sir John,” who reportedly died of COVID-19-related causes last year, at the very untimely age of 67.

At the worst, the Akufo-Addo Presidency could only be faulted for not having anticipated well ahead of schedule the quite glaring fact that the funerary celebration of the illustrious life of the ruling party’s most astute and most versatile General-Secretary was apt to be swamped by the sort of oceanic throng of mourners and sympathizers that besieged the Village of Wonoo, located in the very heart of the indigenous Kente industry, in the Asante Region. Ultimately, however, the onus of the preventable breach of the COVID-19 protocol, as repeatedly, painstakingly, publicly, systematically and meticulously outlined by President Akufo-Addo, for more than a year now, rests with the key operatives of our National Security Agencies, including the Minister of the Interior and the Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service. Indeed, if any group of executive operatives or government officials deserves to be summoned to testify before Parliament, it definitely is the two leaders mentioned above.

But even here, one cannot be so sure, being that the NDC Parliamentary Minority Leadership has been caught on video cameras in innumerable media reports criminally defying COVID-19 protocol in the wake of their party’s seismic loss of the 2020 Presidential Election to President Akufo-Addo. The crowd at Sir John’s funeral could have been strategically controlled by the operatives of our National Security Establishment; but that would have also scandalously meant the heretical desecration of the memory of unarguably the most undercelebrated Kingmaker of any major political party in the country. It is also rather pathetic that the leaders of the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Minority would so artlessly resort to blindly copycatting the Presidential Impeachment Culture and Protocol of the Congress of the United States of America. The irony here, though, is that the leaders of the National Democratic Congress are publicly sworn Cuban- and Russian-style faux socialists who rather ought to be looking towards Havana, Beijing or Moscow in this sphere of political praxis for marching orders and/or instructions.

If they are really serious about ever getting back to Jubilee House, then these National Democratic Congress’ nation-demolishing wrecking balls had better haunch down and do some real critical thinking about how to effectively govern the country, a deep-thinking “rocket-sciency” art which, so far, they have thoroughly demonstrated no aptitude or enviable track record of either having achieved or being capable of achieving in the 30-plus years that the P/NDC has dominated Ghana’s political landscape and culture.
