Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George says #FixTheCountry movement is a meaningful campaign that the government should have listened to rather than the counter-responses.

Speaking on Starr Chat on Starr 103.5 FM Wednesday Sam George reiterated “It’s the trappings of the arrogance of power. When a political party is about to lose power these things happen.”

The Ningo Prampram MP stated that those against the #FixTheCountry campaign are acting on greed because they have access to cheap State funds.

“Those who are telling people to go and fix themselves are because they are chopping the State money and they don’t see the value in what people are saying. Because how can you say that you don’t want a better Ghana. They benefit from the cracks in the system and so when we say fix it you are taking honey from their mouth. So they will say fix yourself by shutting your mouth up,” he reiterated.

There has been a massive social media campaign against the NPP government to attend to problems facing the country including the hike in fuel prices, poor education, health, infrastructure and ultimately the country’s economy, among others.

The Ningo-Prampram lawmaker mentioned that the NPP government is to a large extent familiar with such campaigns owing to the fact that it came to power in 2016 on the back of a heavy social media campaign, adding, “so for them not to appreciate the effectiveness of that machine, and not to understand how to counter it, turn around the power of that machine and think that they can stand in the way of it was suicidal. But that shows you the arrogance of power when you completely lost touch of your base.”

He added: “Yes, we have work to do on ourselves as citizens but it will be worthless if the system is not fixed. We will only get value for ourselves if the system is fixed.”
