The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says it is untrue allegations of harassment of business mogul Dr. Kwaku Oteng.

The authority also downplayed claims of masterminding the suspension of Broadcast Journalist Godsbrain Smart (Captain Smart) at Angel FM, a subsidiary of the Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN).

The vocal presenter was taken off air a day after his birth anniversary for heavily criticizing President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Bawumia for excessive borrowing and emerging high cost of living.

Captain Smart in an interview with Paul Adom-Otchere on Metro TV last Thursday revealed the owner of ABN, Dr. Kwaku Oteng asked him to proceed on a 30-days suspension because he (the owner) was under pressure from the GRA and other state institutions.

But a statement issued by the Communications and Public Affairs Department of the GRA on Tuesday, May 10, 2021, said the allegations of harassment of Dr. Kwaku Oteng, CEO of Angel Group of Companies are unfounded and false.

According to the Authority, part of its mandate is to ensure tax compliance and therefore engages income earners to through various means to honor their tax obligations to the state.

“In line with the above, the GRA has at various times communicated with Dr. Oteng as part of measures to ensure compliance with tax obligations as it does with all taxpayers,” the statement noted.

It added, “The Authority, wishes to state that at no point in time did GRA harass Dr. Oteng as alleged.”
