NPP Pro-NPP group want Ablekuma West MCE sacked
APR 20, 2021 LISTEN

A pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group in the Ablekuma West constituency is calling for the head of the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, George Cyril Bray.

The group, calling itself Concerned Youth of Ablekuma, is alleging that the actions of Mr. Bray are deepening the cracks within the party in the constituency.

Speaking to journalists, Convener of the Concerned Youth of Ablekuma, Eric Mensah, said the party risk losing the seat if their demand is not met.

“When you consider the 2020 election, because of him, we nearly lost our parliamentarian. It is due to the incompetence that he showed in the constituency. We have sent the petition to all the stakeholders and those who are concerned.”

Listing the recipients of the petition he stated that, “we have sent some to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Office of the First Lady, NPP General Secretary Office, Peter Mac Manu [Campaign Manager of NPP]. We sent a lot of letters because our message is simple, we don’t need George in our constituency. If they impose George on us this 2021, that means the MP for Ablekuma West will lose in the next election”.

However, the MCE for Ablekuma West, Goerge Cyril Bray, who denied the allegations, said his actions have rather improved the performance of the party in the area.

Touting his exploits for the party since 2012, Mr George Cyril Bray argued that, “they are talking about nearly losing the seat in 2020, but this is a seat that I won in 2012 and if they want me to be the one to claim the glory [I will]. We have an MP who won the seat, but I was the campaign manager in 2012 where I won the seat for the whole constituency including the presidential election. In 2016, the same person [working as] the campaign manager won.”

Surprisingly, “in 2020, they have an issue with the person who executed the same agenda from 2012?” he quizzed.

He further challenged the group stating that “I don’t politically think it is right because how do you have a problem with me winning the election from 2012 till 2020 but have an issue with the decrease margin in the 2020 election? It is somebody’s agenda and I will not talk too much about it, but I will leave it for the leadership of the party to decide if I have not done my bit of making sure we win the election in the constituency for the parliamentary and presidential as well.”
