Amma Busia breaks NPP rules

NPP Amma Busia breaks NPP rules
APR 19, 2021 LISTEN

It appears an Elder of the NPP, Amma Busia, did not heed calls by the leadership of her party for all and sundry to stop campaigning for any of the aspiring presidential candidates of the NPP for 2024.

Following open fights between supporters of Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyeremanten, and Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, and National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, called on all aspiring candidates and their supporters to stop campaigning.

Mr Blay even stated that those engaged in early campaigns would be suspended when the NPP open its nominations for the presidential candidate race.

But Madam Busia, sister of late Prime Minister, Kofi Abrefa Busia, and an elder of the NPP who should be helping to ensure discipline in the party, has gone against the advice of the party, to openly campaign for Dr Bawumia.

Speaking on Okyeman TV, she stated “Dr Bawumia is more than qualified to lead the NPP in 2024."

To many well-meaning members of the NPP, especially those concerned about ensuring discipline at all levels, her move to campaign for Dr Bawumia, as it will not send any positive signal to the younger people in the party to respect orders given by the party leadership, knowing that even an elder of the party, Amma Busia has gone against the directive on the campaign.

It seems she has opened the floodgates and now it is a free for all.

Being an Elder of the NPP and going public to campaign for Bawumia, it seems she has ‘formally launched’ the presidential candidate campaign of the party.

In recent weeks, it seems there is a deliberate effort to stop all other aspiring candidates from campaigning except Dr Bawumia.

One senior member of the NPP (name withheld) said "we have all become cowards and members of BBF."

When asked what was BBF he said "it is Bawumia By Force."

"Actually, people have endorsed Mr Kyeremanten and others have also endorsed former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Joe Ghartey. But due to the culture of fear and silence developing in the NPP, people are silent to come out and campaign for Alan and Joe Ghartey."

"I do respect Madam Busia’s views, but I do hope that as a Democrat, she will respect the views of others if they decide to campaign for their preferred candidates other than Dr Bawumia. My only worry is the timing of her campaign," an Elder of NPP who doesn't want to be named, said.
