Two men on a motorbike have robbed a mobile money vendor and an electrical shop at Opeikuma, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

The incident happened at around 11 am on Monday, April 19, 2021.

The robbers who were on a motorbike allegedly entered the mobile money shop and demanded money from the vendor.

According to the mobile money attendant, the robbers made away with an unspecified amount of money and fired a warning shot after realizing that passers-by were taking notice of their activities.

The mobile money vendor narrated how she was robbed to Citi News.

“There were three phones being charged, and he instructed us to squat. He then forcefully took the other girl’s bag, and picked up the three phones on the floor which were being charged.”

Out of fear, she added that, “I don’t want to trade at the roadside again because of the gun that I saw. He might come around again and hurt me. The reason is that when they were leaving after the robbery, I raised an alarm and he gave me a stern look which makes me scared.”

The other victim, the electrical shop attendant, told Citi News that the armed man took away their money and phone after several threats.

“He asked for our money, but we were hesitant and replied that we had no money. With insistent requests, I took the bag containing the money, but he snatched and took everything in it. He was wielding a gun behind me and asked me to move into the shop. He demanded money and took away a lot of phones that were being charged. He demanded more money from me, slapped and threatened to shoot me if I raise an alarm. Later, he instructed us to sit on the ground.”

The electrical shop attendant added that “he [robber] leapt onto a motorbike [which had a rider] and fled”.

She however concluded that the armed men could be Nigerians because of their ascent.

About three weeks ago, a forty-year-old man, Steven Ntire was shot at gunpoint at Opeikuma junction by unknown assailants on a motorbike who also made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
