ILO Ghana prepares to hand over SCORE training programme to MDPI

The International Labour Organization (ILO) representatives in Ghana have concluded a two-day conference in Accra as they prepare to hand over the running of the Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) programme to the Management, Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI)

The SCORE programme is a global technical assistance programme of the ILO that supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to grow and contribute to the creation of more and better jobs by improving their competitiveness through better quality, productivity, and workplace practices.

Since 2011, the programme has been run successfully in Ghana and has gone through various phases, helping a lot of businesses in the process.

Set to enter phase four at the end of the year, the ILO has decided to act as a regulator from next year.

While it will be watching from the fence, there are plans for the MDPI to take over but with close monitoring.

As a result, the implementing partners have this week received what is expected to be just one of a number of training conferences that will be organised before the year ends.

Started on Monday and concluded on Tuesday, the training focused mainly on reporting and imputing into the ILO system to ensure registered small and medium-sized enterprises continue to benefit from the SCORE programme.

Speaking at the Conference Mr Samuel Asiedu who is the National Coordinator for the SCORE Programme in Ghana emphasized that they will expect trainers to productively use the skills acquired to train enterprises and also feed into the global system for the benefit of all.

Hammering on the importance of M&E in data management to the sustainability of every enterprise, he backed the National Development and Productivity to do a good job.

Engaging journalists on day one, Deputy Director General at MDPI, Ms. Bernice Adjei noted that her outfit that works under the Ministry of Labour and Employment is filled with enthusiasm because they know it will potentially boost the industrialization agenda of the country.

“We are very excited about it because we need to in order to for the industrialization agenda of Ghana to actually be very successful. We need the productivity Centre that will build capacity because our human capacity is very important and this is the way to go,” she said.

Ahead of the takeover, Ms Bernice Adjei says the MDPI will work with all involved implementers and will put together a transition team to ensure smooth sailing.
