Crime & Punishment NR: Two arrested over robbery at Nanumba South
APR 10, 2021 LISTEN

Two persons have been picked up for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident at Nasamba in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region.

The incident claimed the life of one and injured another person. The two suspects were identified by some of the victims who were robbed.

According to one of the victims, he was able to identify the robbers because, at the point of the robbery, a torchlight flashed on the face of one of the robbers, and he took note of his appearance.

“I saw them on the motorbike this morning in Bimbilla town and I said this was one of the armed robbers. So I approached him and asked if he can identify me, and he said no, I mentioned the incident to him, and he said yes he has identified me. The other one tried to run away and I shouted, so we arrested them and handed them over to the police.”

The victim who sustained cutlass wounds was also made to identify the suspects.

The police in Bimbilla arranged for an identification parade for the victim to identify the suspects.

“I identified him because of his marks on his face. He was the one who cut me with cutlass.”

The suspects are currently in the custody of the Wulensi police pending investigation.

On a similar incident, the five suspects standing trial in the Bimbilla magistrate court over an alleged kidnapping case were discharged by the presiding judge.

The suspects were allegedly involved in a kidnapping case where a nomadic herdsman was kidnapped and his family had to pay GHS100,000 for his release.

According to the judge, the magistrate court has no jurisdiction over the case.

Earlier, the prosecutor asked the court for two more weeks to enable them complete their investigations.

But counsel for the suspects, Nkrabeah Effah Dartey, pleaded for bail for the suspects.

He told the court that, the suspects are innocent citizens and the police had no case against the suspects and are only detaining them for nothing.

He described the case as frivolous, bogus and has no merit.

“For two weeks now since the suspects were reminded, the police has not been able to do anything. To me, the suspects are innocent people and the police have no case against my clients, the case is frivolous, bogus and has nothing.”

The judge has discharged them for lack of jurisdiction and they were re-arrested by the police to be sent to Yendi for further court processes.

On his part, the crime officer of the police, DSP Kusi Pepra said, they are still investigating and will the suspects will charged appropriately.
