SOS Ghana Green Project has piloted a new training curriculum developed to assist in the training of Cash for Work (CFW) beneficiaries under the project.

The four-year project, funded by the European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) is aimed at empowering beneficiaries to discover green job opportunities and business and to also provide the team of the project valuable feedback.

The piloting, which was carried out within the Asokore Mampong Municipality is also to help trainers familiarize themselves with the training content and activities in the new training content, Identify potential shortfalls and challenges on the training content.

The GrEEn Project is being implemented by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and SNV Netherlands Development Organization with funding from the European Union Trust Fund.

Speaking at the training facilitator, Mr. Shaibu Fuseini said SOS Ghana Green Project’s target is to train 4,000 youth within the two regions.

The project aims at creating greater economic and employment opportunities for youth, women, and returning migrants by promoting and supporting sustainable green businesses in 10 MMDAs in the Ashanti and Western regions.

He said, implementation of the project is carried out within 10 districts located within Ashanti and Western Regions; 6 districts in Ashanti, and 4 districts in the Western region.

He indicated the project has four main result areas;

1. Supporting the growth of local economies and creating short-term job opportunities through cash for work.

2. Improving the ability of women, youth, and returning migrants to take advantage of green job and entrepreneurship opportunities in their local economies.

3. Increasing access to and use of financial services to support cash-for-work beneficiaries and MSMEs to meet the needs of youth women and returning migrants while also benefiting their local communities.

4. Supporting and speeding the growth of Small and Medium-size Enterprises (SMEs) in the green and circular economy so they can offer decent, fair, and sustainable jobs to youth, women, and returning migrants.

THE ROLE OF SOS CV

SOS CV is an implementing partner in collaboration with SOS Netherlands for result areas 2 and 4. SOS CV will perform this role through:

• Provide Life Skills Employability and Orientational Technical Training for the Cash for Work beneficiaries (Youth, Women, and Returning migrants) in the 10 MMDAs.

• Provide coaching and mentoring for Cash for Work Beneficiaries

• Test and provide certification for successful beneficiaries

• Migrate beneficiaries with green business ideas onto SNV’s Opportunity for Youth Employment (OYE) program.

Eligibility Criteria

• Young people between 18 to 35 years with a high propensity to migrate

• Men and women between 18 to 65 years

• Persons with Disability (PwDs)

What training will CfW Beneficiaries undergo?

Selected beneficiaries will undergo

• Life skills and employability training aimed at developing skills that build motivation drive and purpose in beneficiaries

• Orientational technical training aimed at creating awareness and suggest options for green

careers/entrepreneurship

• Coaching and mentoring aimed at supporting young people to take the next steps into other

education/programmes/access to resources
