A rich country in trouble

A rich country in trouble
21.03.2021 LISTEN

For the past months, we have observed an increase in phone calls, messenger chats and emails from Queens, high civil servants, one former Bodyguard of a President, Pastors and business owners from Ghana asking for financial aid, visa, invitation letters and employment opportunities or business with money paid after sales of goods.

Klaus B., Human Resource Manager, German: "It is my job to place people into workplaces. Over time I have seen that Ghana is going seriously down. I have myself never been there only know what my clients tell me and the numbers of them. I always was of believing Ghana should be a very prosperous nation but wonder why so many people run to us that we are rich but not blessed as much as that country. I would understand if people from less fortunate countries like Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali etc. would run to us...but not from a rich country like Ghana. Here in Hamburg, we have approximately 40.000 Ghanaians officially, only in one city alone! I would guess not more than 1000-2000 Germans live in Ghana and none of them sends any money back home. Ghana is dead!

This all cannot be all blamed on the past and presently misbehaviour of a few of us Whites. When I place Ghanaians into jobs at first they find fundamental characteristics like working with time, be on time always, work as a team, work with a plan and strategy for now and generations ahead of a problem. But when they live among white Germans only in a surprisingly short time their characters change and they adapt to our way of life. This makes me think that if they back home would fast learn the same way as they do here in our society all of them would live a happy and prosperous life back in their own country...Germany is too cold for them anyway!" He was laughing with concern and seriousness in his eyes.

NB: for a German to take his Ghanaian wife out of Ghana back home takes up to one year!
